The Young Enterprise Programme
The Young Enterprise programme is designed to give learners the ability to discover, develop and celebrate their skills and potential. Both the 10x challenge and Team Programme supports pupils to develop teamwork, communication and decision making, introducing basic business concepts and ownership of decision making, from concept through to delivery. This is achieved through student – led enterprise projects to plan, run and consider key business-related decisions. It brings abstract concept like planning and money into tangible and accessible formats. It aims to embed ‘sticky knowledge’ and key vocabulary, revisiting learning, using formative and summative assessment. Teachers use adaptive teaching to ensure pupils can engage and achieve, nurturing a sense of independence and responsibility. The programmes flexibility means students can pursue business ideas of personal/ group interest and provide opportunities to enhance relevance for Preparation for Adulthood/ link with EHCP outcomes. The programme is also supported with review from the YE Educational Resources Manager to approve products and offer support and input throughout the programme. The YE programme supports personal development and confidence promoting self-belief and self esteem, initiative and resilience.
Our curriculum at Post 16 continues with pupils’ individual curriculum delivery following the RIDE curriculum and develops accreditation further building on previous successes from Key Stage 4.
The curriculum alongside other forms of accreditation including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, ensures pupils have a breadth of opportunity to generalise their skills preparing them for future life beyond GSSC.
The Post 16 provision encompasses GSSC Café Laurel where applied learning achieves accreditation through the skills associated with running a café.
Onsite and offsite work experiences for all pupils at Post 16 develop existing learning intentions in a variety of contexts and environments.
